The following public comments were submitted by Mason County Concerned Citizens in opposition to the Fanter Farms industrial swine operation. These comments - accessible via PDFs below - were submitted within the 30 day review window after the Illinois Farm Services Agency (FSA) authorized publication of the FSA Environmental Assessment (EA) and determination of Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) on October 6, 2021, in the Mason County Democrat newspaper.
November 5, 2021, public comments regarding Illinois FSA
This PDF shows the Illinois FSA relied upon faulty and incomplete information when the agency made the determination of Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Josh Fanter (Fanter Farms) loan. The PDF also shows:that though it was warranted, FSA did not conduct a more complete Environmental Impact Statement for this project;
the Fanter Farms project directly threatens to pollute the Mahomet Sole Source Aquifer as well as devastate ecologies therein (refer to submitted Exhibits A and B listed below);
the Fanter Farms project directly threatens to contaminate the sole drinking water source for residents living in close proximity to the proposed site - Region 5 EPA and the FSA comments ignored the almost 50 people in nearby Peterville who drink water from 12’ deep shallow sand point wells; and
because of the presence of the threatened species Chorus Frog and the expected site investigation using the Illinois EcoCAT process, the Fanter Farms project interrupts efforts currently in place to protect habitat of this threatened species.
